Why Attic Insulation?

Attic Insulation is more important than you might think. A good installation including attic door insulation, vapor barrier, radiant barrier, an attic fan, etc. will save you from so many headaches in the future. By keeping your attic dry and sealed, you can improve the air quality inside your home, prevent damage, and save a lot of money on energy bills.

A house with inadequate insulation will not stay as cool in the summer as it could, and the A/C system will run more frequently than it should. The ceiling and walls will get warm during the warmest hours of the day and even after the sun has set, the walls will continue to radiate heat indoors. However, all of this can be easily solved with insulation.

Attic Remodeling Veterans does both Batts insulation and Blow-in insulation, offering you a service that suits your needs.

Fiberglass Insulation vs. Cellulose Insulation

Cellulose insulation includes cellulose cells that have natural insulating power. It is made from shredded paper and other recycled products plus a fire retardant chemical known as borate. Paper breaks down into cell fibers that provide insulation.

This type of insulation weighs more than fiberglass with the same R-value. Therefore, building structures should be inspected for signs of structural problems before choosing this insulation material.

Fiberglass insulation contains billions of tiny glass fibers, which contain trapped air bubbles. These air bubbles slow down the transfer of heat. It’s more common and can be installed more easily. However, it doesn’t prevent air leaks and is potentially flammable. Fiberglass insulation loses heat rapidly in extremely low temperatures. Fiberglass insulation has proven over the years to provide effective thermal and acoustic insulation, while more recently, cellulose has established itself as a viable alternative. Since both of them will do an effective job insulating your home, the type of insulation you

choose should be based on these and other factors, such as cost, product availability, and quality.

Need Insulation Replacement?

Old insulation is inefficient and could lead to higher energy bills and even health problems too. Dirty insulation is the result of pests such as rats or rodents that left traces.

Attic Remodeling Veterans can remove whatever type of insulation is installed in your attic, quickly and safely.

What is R-Value?

Insulation is classified in terms of thermal resistance, called the R-value, which indicates resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness. The R-value of insulation depends on the type of material, its thickness, and density. When calculating the R-value of a multi-layer installation, the R-values of the individual layers are added. Installing more insulation in your home increases the R-value and resistance to heat flow.

Homes generally require insulation with an R-value of around 38. The R-value of cellulose insulation is about 3.8 per inch, so you need about 10-inch-thick insulation to reach R-38. The R-value of fiberglass insulation is about 2.2 per inch, so you need much thicker insulation to achieve the same R-value of 38.
